The Vermont Framework of Standards
Vermont's schools and teachers are being challenged to meet the many requirements of Vermont's Frameworks. Our long-standing practices address many of the new Standards, some of which are:

2 Reasoning and Problem Solving Standards
2.1 Students ask a variety of questions
2.2 Students use reasoning strategies, knowledge, and commonsense to solve complex problem related to all fields of knowledge.
Application
2.6 Students apply prior knowledge, curiosity, imagination, and creativity to solve problems,
Information
2.7 Students respond to new information by reflecting on experience and reconsidering their opinions and sources of information.
Taking Risks
2.8 Students demonstrate a willingness to take risks in order to learn.
Persevering
2.9 Students persevere in the face of challenges and obstacles.
Fluency
2.10 Students generate several ideas using a variety of approaches
Elaboration
2.11 Students represent their ideas and/or the ideas of others in detailed form.

3 Personal Development Standards
Environment
3.9 Students take steps to protect and repair the environment.
Teamwork
3.10 Students perform effectively on teams that set and achieve goals, conduct investigations, solve problems, and create solutions (e.g., by using consensus-building and cooperation to work toward group decisions).
Interactions
3.11 Students interact respectfully with others, including those with whom they have differences.
Conflict Resolution
3.12 Students use systematic and collaborative problem-solving processes, including mediation, to negotiate and resolve conflicts.

4 Civic/Social Responsibility Standards
Democratic Processes
4.2 Students participate in democratic processes (simulated Town Meetings).

6 History and Social Sciences Standards
Historical Connections
6.4d Analyze the causes and characteristics of periods of transition in the location under study, and their influences on the present
Interrelationships
6.9 Students examine the interrelationships among physical earth processes, ecosystems, and human activities.

7 Science, Mathematics, and Theory
Scientific Method
7.1 Students us scientific methods to describe, investigate, and explain phenomena.
Analysis
7.11 Students analyze and understand living and non-living systems (biological) as collections of interrelated parts and interconnected systems.
Organisms, Evolution, and Interdependence
7.13 Students understand the characteristics of organisms, see patterns of similarity and differences among living organisms, understand the role of evolution, and recognize the interdependence of all systems that support life.
